11 days, 0 hours, 32 minutes, but who's counting?

Well, I'm going to be leaving for Ghana soon! I'm quite excited....I packed and everything already! Of course, it's so early I'll probably have to unpack and repack everything at least once before I leave. Makes me feel like I'm leaving sooner!

Evelyn and I are going to be travelling around Africa with just my backpack that I borrowed from my sister and a day pack (or maybe 2 day packs...we'll see). So that means that everything I have for 2 weeks has to fit in half of a backpack! I thought I had the whole backpack and was happy about all the extra room I have! Oh well, back to the drawing (or packing) board! I think if I put some stuff in a day pack I should have plenty of room.

So I get to go to BFMS on our trip! I guess people there want to meet me, so Ev and I are going to head there for the day just to take a look around. It'll be nice to meet all the people that Evelyn has been talking about all summer, as well as see all the places! So that'll be fun. Actually, I have no control over the itinerary at all! I left it up to Evelyn to plan everything, and I'm sure we're going to have a great time because of it! She's really good at organizing and planning things. So glad one of us is!

The easiest move in the world!

So I finished helping Chirlene with the easiest move ever. Well, actually I guess that when I first moved out it was pretty easy, too, except for the 12 hour drive to Calgary. The biggest thing I had to move was my suitcase and computer. This time the biggest thing Chirlene had to move was her queen bed. That was a bit of a problem, but other than that, everything was super easy! I basically fit all of her boxes in my car, put 3 things in Henry's car, and that accounted for everything but the furniture! In all it was only 2 trips to get everything out of her place, and she was set up in her room by evening. Well, my move was 2 trips as well, but that was with a U-haul and had to span 2 days! Anyway, Chirlene and Sandi are moved into their place now, and everything is good so far! Congratulations you two!

Calgary Dragon Boat Festival 2005

Well, I've just gotten through the dragon boat festival! Unfortunately our team didn't do as well this year as we did last year, but we did all still have a really fun time! The weather was cooperating this year, which is really fortunate. Last year it was SOO COLD! It was rainy and so cold it was almost snow (at least it felt like that). This year is was really hot on Saturday and just perfect on Sunday.

As for the results? Well, the womens team won gold for the 3rd year in a row, which was great! The men's team didn't win this year, unfortunately. Three of the other teams took their best men and put them into 1 boat, which was strong enough to edge our men out (they beat us by less than a second). Too bad, but I still got a silver medal. Our competitive level mixed team didn't win this year either. There was some really strong competition this year, and they came in 4th in the final. My mixed team did really well, however! We managed to get into the finals of the B division, which is great! Last year we were in the consolation of the C division, so that's a huge difference! I'm thinking of joining the semi competitive team next year. Just depends on Evelyn, actually! We'll have to see if I can convince her to join next year with me! I'm sure she'd love it =).

1 month to go!

Well, I only have 1 more month to go before I leave for Africa! I will be getting on the plane on Sept 3, hopefully with everything packed and with me! I'm starting to pack now; if I don't I will definitely forget something. Should be a good time! Everyone wish me luck that I won't get malaria when I'm over there! All I need is a self-contained air-conditioned environment suit which can keep the bugs off me and keep me cool at the same time! Of course, I haven't had much luck finding one of those at Canadian Tire. Oh well, guess I'll have to go with the old-fashioned bug spray.
